Sans Seraph

Sans Seraph began in the early 2000s when Billy White and Kenny Comeaux started writing music together in a two-bedroom apartment. What began as a small recording project soon developed into a full band with guitarist Anthony Wessels and bassist Christopher Pottinger. Billy later invited former Shun bandmate David Crutcher to join on guitar, and the band began writing and performing together.

After David departed to form Pilots Wish with other former members of Shun, Sans Seraph continued developing the songs that would become After the Rain. Chris contributed guitar in addition to bass, while Billy and Anthony added keyboards. Over roughly ten months of recording, Kenny handled much of the production and helped shape the atmospheric sound that would define the album.

Near the end of recording, Mark Summerall joined on guitar after hearing the band’s early demos. Following After the Rain, Jared Cooper joined on keyboards, allowing Billy to focus solely on vocals as the band continued writing and exploring new material.

Eventually, life began pulling the members in different directions. Kenny stepped away, and Billy followed to focus on his family. Although members continued making music in various forms, Sans Seraph eventually went quiet.

Nearly twenty years later, everything changed.

In November 2025, After the Rain began finding an unexpected new audience through TikTok and streaming services. As the music reached a new generation of listeners, Billy reconnected with Kenny and Chris in May 2026. The three met and decided it was time to begin writing a new chapter for Sans Seraph. David Crutcher and Mark Summerall were subsequently invited back as full members, bringing together musicians from different eras of the band.

On September 17, 2026, Sans Seraph released “Novocaine,” a song whose origins stretched back to the years following After the Rain. Billy, Kenny, Anthony, Chris, Jared, Mark, and Matt Naff had each played a part in its creation over the years, making it a bittersweet bridge between the band’s past and future.

Today, Sans Seraph is Billy White, Kenny Comeaux, Christopher Pottinger, Mark Summerall, and David Crutcher.

More than twenty years after After the Rain, the story isn’t simply being revisited. The band is writing again, with work underway on a new Sans Seraph album.
